Installation of handlebar

• Clean the handlebar and stem clamp surfaces with alcohol, and allow to dry.
• For carbon handlebars, apply Easton Friction Paste to the stem handlebar clamp and handlebar clamping surface.
• Install the Easton handlebar centered in the stem clamp and rotate as desired.
• Torque the stem handlebar clamp bolts as specified by the stem manufacturer.

• Inspect the shifter and brake control lever clamp surfaces for burrs or sharp edges. remove any burrs or sharp edges with 320/400 grit sandpaper.
• Thoroughly clean the control lever clamp surfaces with alcohol, and allow to dry.
• When installing road control levers, remove the clamp from the lever; then carefully slide the clamp over the bar and into position, making sure that you do not scratch the handlebar. Loosely re-attach the lever to the clamp (Figures 2, 3 and 4).
• When installing controls on mountain bars, carefully slide the control clamp over the bar and into position, making sure that you do not scratch the handlebar.
• Do not clamp ANYTHING (Lights, racks, bags, aero bars, computers, etc.) on a bar taper or XC/Riser bar bend. (Figure 5)
• Check the position of the control lever and adjust as necessary. Tighten the control lever clamp bolt(s) according to the component manufacturer's instructions.
• If installing bar ends, check bar end tech bulletin below in these instructions.
• Install grips or handlebar tape and end plugs securely to the bar following the manufacturer's instructions.

Maintenance

• Never ride with the stem or bars loose. If bars or stem slip or creak, please make sure the bars are installed correctly and fit properly in the stem.
• Using a calibrated torque wrench, re-torque all bolts after the first ride. If there is any bolt movement, re-torque after next ride.
• Using a calibrated torque wrench, re-torque all bolts every six months.
• Regularly inspect all components for any damage (cracks, chips, etc.) and replace component upon detection.
• In case of a crash or any impact, carefully check your bars, stem, fork, seat post, wheels, and frame for any visible damage. as with any component under varying stress, there is a limited fatigue life that is proportional to the use and abuse of the part. Inspect your components often. If you have any doubts about the integrity of any part, REPLACE IT. Consult your Easton dealer if you are unsure about the condition of your components or any part of your bicycle.

Clamp Characteristics of Acceptable Bar Ends

• Slot is on center line of bar insertion hole (see Figure 6).
• Bolt is perpendicular to slot.
• When clamped finger-tight, contact area of clamp is round without edges of slot pushing into the handlebar.

Clamp Characteristics of Unacceptable Bar Ends

• Slot is NOT in line with center of bar insertion hole.
• Bolt is NOT perpendicular to slot.
• When clamped finger-tight, contact area of clamp is NOT round. lower section around slot typically pushes into the handlebar, resulting in a crack at the end of the handlebar.
