Easton Cycling Introduces EA90 RT Road Tubeless Wheelset
August 12, 2011Easton Cycling has brought their extensive experience with tubeless mountain bike wheels to the road. Taking technology developed for tough yet light MTB wheels like the Haven and EA90 XC, Easton now introduces their first tubeless road wheel, the EA90 RT. Tubeless wheels, and the lower tire pressures they allow, greatly improve ride quality and offer better cornering traction. Eliminating tubes also virtually eliminates the possibility of pinch flatting.
The EA90 RT features a generous 17.5-milimeter internal rim width that offers 12-percent greater tire volume over the same tire mounted on a typical 15mm rim. Even when used with innertubes, this wider profile provides an improved tire profile for added stability and comfort. The EA90 RT wheelset utilizes a proprietary rim design that holds a road tubeless bead securely even at pressures less than 100psi, creating an airtight seal between the rim and tire. At $800 for the pair, the EA90 RTs weigh a mere 1550g – plus they negate the necessity for heavy inner tubes. The wheels feature sealed cartridge bearing R4 hubs, alloy freewheel and Sapim stainless spokes. These wheels offer road enthusiasts outstanding performance and value even if those riders never commit to tubeless. As with all Easton wheels, the EA90 RT wheelset is entirely hand-built and acoustically tuned so it stays straight and true longer.
